The Ban Fili Tour

I would like to congratulate Tigh Fili for bringing the work of these new poets to the attention of a potentially wider readership/audience in Europe. Their recent European tour was a brilliantly proactive and confident act and they deserve the very best accolades for doing so.’  – Jaki McCarrick, Writer-in-Residence, Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris

April 2013 saw an exciting new poetry tour around Europe with Tigh Filí poets Kathy D’Arcy, Ann Egan and Cliona O’Connell. The Ban Filí (Woman Poet) tour will showcase the talents of the three poets in five cities around France and Germany. Run by Bernadette Greenan the tour will start off with a visit and presentation to the Lord Mayor of Rennes and will present a series of opportunities to listen to the best work of some of Ireland’s more appealing woman writers.  The readings will continue in Nantes and Paris in France, followed by events in Berlin and Munich in Germany. The Ban Filí tour aims to highlight and promote women’s writing around Europe, and will include discourse on the highs and lows of being a ‘woman writer’ in contemporary society.  As writer in residence with Tigh Fili and a scholar of Irish women’s writing, D’Arcy, along with Greenan, intends to create an anthology of Irish and European women’s poetry following the tour, and says ‘research shows that women’s poetry still occupies a less visible space, and this has not to date been addressed succinctly by any Irish press, in my view.  I’m delighted that Bradshaw Books is taking this opportunity to put Cork on the map as a hub for Irish and International women’s writing.’
